In Russia, generations of masters have long developed methods and traditions of woodcarving. Interest in this sculptural material was revived among professional sculptors in the 20th century. The international festival "Lukomorye" maintains and develops the traditions of Russian and foreign woodcarvers.

The first international festival of wooden sculpture “Lukomorye on Baikal” was first held in 2011. Over the six years of its existence, sculptors from different countries of the world and from almost all regions of Russia took part in the events. Now the sculpture park, located in the village of Savvateevka, Irkutsk Region, is the only one in the world where unique sculptures from Angara pine under the open sky are presented all year round. At the moment there are more than 200 of them. Every year more than 100 applications from sculptors from 25 countries of the world come. Applications come from Japan, Greece, Israel, Latvia, China, Brazil, Argentina, Nepal, Australia, Zimbabwe, Ecuador, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Uganda, India, France, Spain, Serbia, etc. The organizers note: Due to the fact that guests come from different countries, various wood-carving schools will be represented at the festival.

Every year sculptors create a theme. Over the past years, the themes of the festival were: “Heroes of Pushkin's fairy tales, Russian folk tales and epics” (2011), Heroes of Hellas ”(2012),“ Giant insects ”(2013),“ Flowers wonderful ”(2014),“ Artist's Soul ”( 2015), “Faith” (2016), “Hope” (2017), “Love” (2018). The theme of the festival in 2019 - "Legends of the peoples of the world."

The unique wooden sculpture park became the materialized result of the festivals. Here, every person, both an adult and a child, can touch the beautiful, the origins of the original Russian soul, enjoy the beauty of virgin nature and the creations of human craftsmanship, the great centuries-old art of wooden sculpture, together with the invigorating air of pine forest to breathe the very atmosphere of creativity, to fill the heart with joy unselfish human intercourse.
