International Platonov Arts Festival in Voronezh



Platonov Art Festival is one of the largest and most significant art festivals in Russia. The festival program traditionally consists of the directions “Theater”, “Music”, “Exhibitions” and “Literature” and is a collection of the brightest phenomena and names of modern Russian and world culture.

The festival, named after the outstanding writer of the 20th century Andrei Platonov, has been held in his homeland since 2011. The special “Platonic program” includes projects created on the basis of the writer's works or in tune with his spirit and era.

Since its founding, the Platonov Festival has pursued its main goal: to open Voronezh to the great world of art and open the world of Voronezh. For nine years, the performances of Robert Wilson and Michael Talheimer, Philip Genti and Daniele Finzi Paski, Declan Donnellan and Eymuntas Nyakroshyus, Pippo Delbono and Cornel Mundruzo, Angelin Preljokage and Wayne Rudgod Vasilen McGregg, were shown in the city in southern Russia and Oskaras Korshunovas, Andrey Moguchy and Yuri Butusov ... German theater “Berliner Ensemble”, Parisian “Buff du Nor”, Netherlands Dance Theater, British “Sadlers Wells” and many others came to Voronezh.

In the Voronezh concert halls played Kronos Quartet, Camerata of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Jerusalem Quartet, the Russian National Orchestra and the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. Tchaikovsky, pianists Mikhail Pletnev, Luke Debarg, David Fry and Alice Sarah Ott, cellists David Geringas, Mario Brunello, Misha May, violinists Maxim Vengerov, Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin and many other musicians.

The festival hosted exhibitions of works from the collections of the Pushkin Museum to them. A.S. Pushkin, Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Multimedia Art Museum and other museums and galleries.

Also at the festival there are a number of events for the wider public: numerous open-airs at scenic venues (including in the chalk pit White Well or at the Princess Oldenburg Palace), a theater parade and street theater performances, a book fair, lectures and master classes .

For nine years, the forum has become one of the largest and most significant art festivals in Russia. In 2019 alone, more than 80,000 spectators from different cities attended its events. And the number of spectators for all the years of the Platonov festival has exceeded the mark of half a million.
