Passion for fishing in Astrakhan blood. They are happy to spend the weekend with a fishing rod in their hands on the banks of the Volga. Therefore, the traditional fishing festival “Vobla” becomes an especially significant and long-awaited event of the year. It passes under the slogan "Either we are not Astrakhan, or the Volga is not a river." The festival program includes public competitions in fishing for roach, which at this time just comes to the Volga from the Caspian Sea, as well as contests and a concert program.

The festival is very popular not only among Astrakhan residents, but also among the guests of the region. The festival has been held since 1997 under the personal patronage of the governor of the Astrakhan region in the form of competitions among amateur fishermen. The main purpose of the festival is to support the historical traditions of the Astrakhan region, the education of patriotic feelings and respect for nature. In accordance with the order of the competition, all types of fish, except those that are prohibited to be caught, are taken in size, at least 17 cm in size, the participants are obliged to release the rest.

Competitions in amateur fishing are usually held in three categories: children, adults and teams. The winner is the fisherman who caught the most large fish. Finalists and winners receive valuable prizes from sponsors like boats and echo sounders, and guests and spectators of the festival receive a lot of vivid emotions and unforgettable impressions.
